Thomond Community College 1st year girls were recently crowned FAI Limerick Futsal Champions after winning the tournament held up at the Youthspace in Galvone by the FAI. A tricky start saw them lose there first game to Desmond College, but back to back wins over the Crescent Comprehensive’s teams put them back in contention. The final was a chance to put right the first game as they were up against Desmond College once more and put it right they did, winning the game 4 – 1.
A trip to Waterford IT followed where they were representing Limerick in the Munster Finals. A blistering start saw them dismantle Clare 5 – 0 in the opening game. Next up was Tipperary which eneded in a 0 – 0 draw, followed by another victory over Waterford 3 -1. Cork lay in wait next and an entertaining game ended 1 -1. The final game was against a Kerry side who hadn’t lost throughout the tournament and proved to be the girl’s only loss also as they succumbed to a 2 – 0 defeat. 2 wins, 2 draws and just the one defeat meant the girls left their mark on the tournament, doing Limerick soccer proud in the process.
All in all, the students had a great day and we even managed a Supermac’s on the way home. The best compliment I can pay them is that it was the shortest 5hr bus journey I’ve ever been on. Onwards and upwards for girl’s soccer in Thomond Community College.
